Cream tea with the Choir

On Sunday 30 August, the Friends of Romsey Abbey Choir held a cream tea to raise funds for the choir's tour of Northern England, in association with representatives of George's Trust, who plan to walk Hadrian's Wall. Choir mums baked a generous quantity of scones and cakes and, with clotted cream bought in bulk for the occasion, everything appeared to be set fair for a memorable afternoon.

Unfortunately, for the second year running, the weather conspired against holding the event outdoors in the Abbey's South Garth, as planned; it was instead held in the freshly redecorated Church Rooms. Advance publicity nevertheless secured a good turn-out and the event raised over £200.

The Choir's autumn term officially begins with Choral Evensong at 6.30 pm on Sunday 6 September. At 2 pm this coming Saturday, however, it is singing at the wedding of the Reverend John Clarke, one of the retired clergy who regularly assists at the Abbey, and Hazel Withers, the Parish Secretary.

On Friday 25 September, it joins the Romsey Area Schools and Youth Jazz Orchestras for an early evening concert in Romsey's Memoral Park in aid of George's Trust.
