Cheese and Wine Quiz night
11 November 2003
This was an excellent evening put together by Ken and Margaret Stott. There were three red wines, three white wines and six different cheeses to sample and answer questions about, together with a number of associated questions around wine growing and cheese making. The wines were superb and there was an opportunity to purchase bottles of the favourite tipple at the end. Although each person had their own answer sheet there was lively discussion around the tables with plenty of going back for another sample to test! Congratulations to David Snell for being the top buff. The turnout was a bit disappointing with only twenty-five people taking part, but we hope the numbers will greater the next time we hold it. Watch this space! Brilliant evening and many thanks, Ken and Margaret.
Epiphany Supper
10 January 2004
A gala evening that was a fitting send-off and thank you to Jeff Williams. The evening raised about 660 to help fund the choir holiday to Durham. Thanks to all those who attended and to Mike Rowland for pulling it all together.
Pantomine
23 January
Robert Fielding was thrown in the deep end having to escort the boys to see Cinderella at the Plaza on 23rd January. The singing was enthusiastic although not very polished. Thanks go to the PCC for funding it.
Skittles evening
13 February
This is always a popular event and was held, as usual at the Mortimer Arms Hotel at Ower. 40 people attended and it was great to see so many FORAC members from the congregation. Good food, good company and good bowling. Congratulation to Dick Hewett for not only manning the scoreboard but also on winning (not that the two are in any way related!)
Ten-pin bowling
6 March
A write-up for this event appears separately. Another event that we would like to repeat and grateful thanks to Julie Thomas, Jane O'Brien and the other ladies of the committee for organising it.
Quiz evening
20 March
Diane and Graham Brown delivered the goods yet again with another cracking quiz. More teams than ever this year, 10 teams and 62 people. A wonderful ploughman's supper (with particular thanks to Adrienne Mordan, Anne Prowse et al) and a very testing set of questions. The Garden Gnomes were yet again triumphant just pipping Canny Basses to the post! They are now veterans of the podium and will clearly have to be brainwashed before next year. Thanks to Diane & Graham, and to Stephen for doing the paperwork.
Events coming up.
Fun day at Mountbatten School
29 May
At the time of writing this event has still to happen weather permitting. There will be tea, chat, tennis and rounders for the energetic, finishing up with a barbecue in the evening. All are welcome.
Choir concert
25th June
Romsey Abbey Choir will be holding a concert in the Abbey as part of the Music in Romsey season. Tickets will be available from the Heritage Centre. See posters for details. An exiting programme of Vierne's Messe Solennelle, Mozart's Missa Brevis in D and a few choice anthems.
Summer outing
3rd July
This year we will be visiting the Motor Museum at Beaulieu. There will be a minibus for the boys but any parents and siblings or Friends are welcome to join us and will be able to get in on a party rate.
Choir Holiday to Durham
2330 August
We are looking forward to retuning to Durham this year our previous visit was in 1996 and we will again be staying at Durham School. Outings are already being planned (remember Beamish last time?) and preparations are well underway. Friends are very welcome to join us, although I will need to know final numbers by the end of June if you want to stay at the school. If you are in the area and would like to join us for the evening meal after a service or join us for a barbecue at the weekend then, again, you would be most welcome the sooner I know your intentions, the easier it will be to accommodate you.
Visit to St Mary's Stadium
We are hoping to arrange a visit back-stage to St Mary's stadium one evening in the Autumn. See the Saints' changing rooms, board room and experience the luxury of a private box. Although primarily aimed at the boys both those in the front and those in the back row who think they are still boys! it might be possible to extend the invitation to others. Watch this space and we'll let you know more soon.
So, what with one thing and other, this has been a busy year and there's still plenty to come.
