Abbey Organist to step down
Jeffrey
Williams has, with great regret, announced his intention to step down
as Organist and Master of the Choristers with
effect from the end of the year, in order to pursue other musical interests,
principally his overseas examining work for Trinity College London, the
examinations department of Trinity College of Music. He has been involved
with the Abbey Choir for over twenty years, first as Assistant Organist
and, since 1990, as Organist .
During this time, he has built up the choir into one of the largest all-male parish church choirs in the region. In addition to leading the choir at regular services at the Abbey, he has taken it to many of the major English Cathedrals, including Canterbury, York, Durham and St. Albans, as well as on two tours to the Netherlands.
He has also supervised the refurbishment of the main Walker Organ in the Abbey and the addition to it of a new, separate Nave section. He will therefore be greatly missed.
A formal advertisement of the vacancy his resignation has created will be placed shortly.
