On Saturday 14 July, we staged a concert of sacred choral music, attracting an audience of over 100.
In his welcome, the Vicar, Revd Tim Sledge, observed that the title of the concert, Sing Hallelujah! was an encouragement to celebrate the Abbey’s good fortune in having the talents of so many enthusiastic singers at its disposal. But it was also a literal instruction, since the audience were warmly encouraged to join in the opening item, Ralph Vaughan Williams’s setting of the hymn All people that on Earth do dwell for the 1953 Coronation – and the grand finale, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.
